Enjoyed an evening of
cultural programme and witnessed the dance forms of Thailand. They created a
Thai village.Though there was shopping the focus was more on culture. First
there was an open aired performance and they involved the tourists in a big way
and asked them to participate. After this there was a cultural programme in a
theatre which is on the Guineesse Book of World Record for the biggest and
largest theatre in the world. Unfortunately pictures were not allowed but the
show showcased the History of Thailand from the beginning. There was a river
flowing on stage, traders came, festivals celebrated and hundreds of artists
danced to beautiful backgrounds of jungles, seas, palaces, ships, temples and
many others. . An amazing show that could compare to the Cirque Du Soleil of Las Vegas. I kept wondering why we do not
have such kind of tourist attraction in India. We have our Shipa Rama in
Hyderabad but that is more aloof and hardly any tourists and the focus is more
on selling rather than showcasing the culture. A great evening.
As a feminist historian working on South Asian history for the past forty years, I went back into the past and started thinking of my various Journeys in to life and through life. This blog would then give a peep into history and the different civilizations, cultures and the people that one comes across in this journey. I do not keep these in chronological order, but the Journey the place becomes the focus.
