Visit to the floating market out side Bangkok. Went to the floating market called Damnoen Saduak which is about hundred kilometres from Bangkok. Having seen a Kashmiri floating market long back in 1985 and then in films I had imagined that there would be a lot of open space in the huge river and goods would be sold in the boats. I was in for a surprise for the market is established on the bankof the canal, long miles of shops along with few floating boats selling their ware. Most of the sellers were women. A very vibrant, colourful place and an experience in itself. A lot of handicrafts, clothes, purses, food items, fruits are sold here. There were some restaurants also along the canal. Most of the vendors live in houses near by. Though a lot of plastic is used in Thailand and every where you are sold items wrapped in plastic, I have yet to see any plastic bag throw around. The whole city looks neat and clean.
