Bath

Visiting Bath on 5th June, 2019, is an experience in itself. This city deriving its name from the Roman Bath of 60 to  70 A.D. has lot of Georgian Architectural Buildings which were added to it in 15th and 16th cen. A, major portion of it was destroyed during the Air raids during the second World War but again it was reconstructed. Today most of the buildings that are seen were  reconstructed during 18th and 19th cen. All the buildings use the same yellowish sand stone found in the quarries nearby and this lends a almost surreal feeling to the place. The narrow lanes and by lanes, the beautiful architecture, the well planned city, the beautiful structures all invite a large number of tourists from all over the world  to this place. This city was declared a, World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1987.There are lovely hop in and hop off buses that take you around the city in the City tour. There is another Skyline tour that take you in the out skirts of the city and one can enjoy the vast expanse of greenery and a different styles of home though of the same stones. We took both the trips and enjoyed the day. This city is also famous for Jane Austin spent five years of her life here and two of her novels Nothanger Abbey and Persuasion were written here. We could see her house and there is a museum attached with her name. There is  a lot of description about Bath in these two novels. When Catherine Morland the young heroine Of Northanger Abbey arrives in Bath, "her eyes were here there and every where." In fact this is the experience that one goes through in the first visit to Bath. Jane however did not really like the social life of 19th cen Bath and in a letter to her sister she writes, "Today we leave Bath for Clifford and what an escape". It is an amazing experience being connected to the past and going around this beautiful town for there are hardly any major traces of the modern world. Time stands still here and once is transported back  to  city in Medieval Europe and in Medieval times.
