The Pearl Harbor National Memorial

The 46th Annual ISA Convention was held in  Honolulu from 1st to 5th March, 2005. I attended this. I stayed with Tarun Sharma who was the son of our very good friends and neighbors in Hyderabad when we had just started our lives and Bittu my eldest son was  born there. Tarun was then a small boy studying in 6th class and would roam in nickers. He came to receive me in a Mercedes car and I was very thrilled to see his progress. He is now a Doctor and his wife , Kavita is also a doctor and they both practice in the US. On 5th evening Kavitas mother took me to see Pearl Harbor along with a few friends of hers. Pearl Harbor attack, on December 7, 1941 was a surprise aerial attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor on Oahu Island, Hawaii, by the Japanese that precipitated the entry of the United States into World War II. The strike climaxed a decade of worsening relations between the United States and Japan. The Pearl Harbor National Memorial, signifies this attack and is a memorial to the dead soldiers. The Pearl Harbor National Memorial is located in Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, on the island of Oahu in the State of Hawai'i. Within close proximity to downtown Honolulu and the resort area of Waikiki, the Pearl Harbor site is the most visited destination on Oahu. The Pearl Harbor National Memorial and its partners preserve, interpret, and commemorate the history of World War II in the Pacific from the events leading to the December 7, 1941, attack on Oah'u, to peace and reconciliation. The names of the soldiers dead has been engraved on the wall. The attack killed 2,403 U.S. personnel, including 68 civilians, and destroyed or damaged 19 U.S. Navy ships, including 8 battleships.

The beginning of Journeys

Today on Dusherra day, the 5th of October, 2022, I am in Odenton, Maryland, USA  in the house of my elder son  and daughter in Law, Sankalp and Nidhi. The weather is very beautiful and cludy with a lot of rain and drizzle down the past few days. it is now slowly turning cold and the weather is becoming chilly. As I sit infront of my lap top, I went back into the past and started thinking of my various Journeys in to life and through life. I then opened this blog and thought I should keep a record of all these travels and the different places that I have visited.   This blog would then give a peep into history and the different civilisations, cultures and the people that one comes across in this journey. I do not keep these in chronologica order but the event and the travel becomes the focus. I look into these journeys both in India and abroad.  I start this blog from 2005 March.
